Ancient Egypt- Day 1

           Geography
- Egyptian life is centered on the Nile River
- it flows South to North
- 3 branches of the Nile and converge into one called the Nile River
- over 4,000 miles long
- the water is for drinking, irrigation, bathing, and transportation
-first people to invent the sailboat
- every July the river floods
- every October it leaves behind rich soil called silt
- the delta is a broad, marshy triangular area
- managing the river requires technological breakthroughs in irrigation
          Pyramids
- The Great Sphinx of Giza, built in 2555-2532 B.C
- a recumbent lion with a humans head, protects the pyramid
- oldest monumental statue in the world
